Media Day set for Jan. 3

MEDIA DAY: On Jan. 3, the Bobcats are hosting Media Day at Ultimate Sports Academy from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Players will be receiving their uniforms. Professional photographer/videographer Barry Alley is our new team photographer, and he will be taking head and shoulder portraits of every player and coach. These photos will be posted on the EBL team pages and published throughout the season. Please make every effort to stop by USA on Jan. 3 to have a professional portrait taken. Players who have recently joined the program will not receive their game jerseys until March.

Winter Baseball Academy

Players ages 9 and up are eligible to sign up for the Bobcats Winter Baseball Academy at Ultimate Sports Academy in Manchester. Training begins Jan 9-10, 2016 and continues every Saturday and Sunday through March. Workouts are designed to prepare athletes for the spring season with an emphasis on arm conditioning, overall agility and proper fundamentals of fielding, hitting, pitching and catching. Example of a typical Saturday workout:

5 p.m. -- Stretching and plyometric exercises
5:15-6:30 p.m. -- Skill stations for 25 minutes and rotate
Station 1: Throwing mechanics and arm conditioning, long toss. Lead coach: Kevin McGowan, NY Mets minor league pitcher
Station 2: Baseball-specific agility training with a certified trainer
Station 3: Fielding mechanics and proper footwork. Lead coach: Greg LaRocca, former major leaguer

Saturday schedule
Session 1, ages 13-17: 5-6:30 p.m., USA
Session 2, ages 13-17: 6:30-8 p.m., USA

Sunday schedule
Session 1, ages 9-12: 8-9:30 a.m., USA
Session 2, ages 9-12: 9:30-11 a.m., USA

Champions Hitting Camp with Ken Joyce

Ken Joyce of the San Francisco Giants, owner of four World Series rings, is once again hosting the Champions Hitting Camp at Ultimate Sports Academy on Saturday, Dec. 19. Session I for ages 9-12 is from 2-5 p.m. Session II for ages 13-17 is from 6-9 p.m. Log in at and register for the camp. 
Joyce is a former hitting coach of the Fisher Cats who has worked at several levels of the minors with the Giants. He has been hitting coach in the Arizona Fall League, Major League spring training and made several stops from Single-A to Triple-A, working closely with Bryce Harper, Mike Trout and others such as Buster Posey and Pablo Sandoval. He is no stranger to the Bobcats, having conducted clinics with our coaches through the years. Click here for video of the camp.

Welcome Tommy Chase!

Former University of Notre Dame co-captain Tommy Chase has joined the staff at Ultimate Sports Academy and is available for fielding and hitting lessons. Chase, a four-year member of the Fighting Irish, has also coached in the Futures Collegiate Baseball League and is entering his first year as an assistant at Southern New Hampshire University. A native of Cohasset, Mass., Chase graduated from Boston College High School and joined the Notre Dame baseball team in 2009. As a senior in 2012, his teammates unanimously named him co-captain. He was also named a finalist for the 2012 Coach Wooden Citizenship Award as one of "Sports Greatest Citizens." Chase served as an assistant coach and head coach for the Seacoast Mavericks of the FCBL and served as an assistant at Navy and UC-Santa Barbara.program.
